PARK CLOSIN'

1999. 36 x 48. Oils on Canvas. Washington Square Park, one of the most interesting parks in the world, until they renovated it that is, used to be open all night. Then they started closing it at around midnight. This park was a center for the counter culture from the 1950’s on. It played a huge role in the 1960’s. The park had a very strange and eerie feel. Perhaps it was the 100,000 bodies buried underneath it. When they secretly removed those bodies, from 2007 to 2009, the park no longer had that weird feeling, but it was never as interesting to be there either, sadly.

GIRL WITH SANDWICH IN WASHINGTON SQUARE PARK

1997. 36 x 48. Oils on Paper Laminated on Plywood. This park in the heart of Greenwich Village, NYC, is a place where many New Yorkers come to be with other people. In a crowded city like New York, you still can feel alone. On this day, I drew this scene. Even in a park surrounded by people, you can still be, sadly, all alone.

GIRL WITH CELL PHONE WITH HOMELESS MAN IN WASHINGTON SQUARE PARK

2005 36 x 48 Oils on Canvas. Washington Square Park, the Jewel of Greenwich Village New York City, has been a Mecca for New Yorkers for 100 plus years. There are natural and supernatural things in and around that park that need silence to perceive. Our phones are now a distraction rather than an addition to our lives, when you can’t see the beauty around us, or feel another person’s despair nearby.

WARM APRIL NIGHT IN THE PARK

1999. 36 X 48. Oils on Canvas. New York City Winters are grievous bitterly cold things. When the weather finally breaks, New Yorkers flee their tiny apartments to re explore their beloved city. Parks are the first entrance to glories that NYC has to offer. Here is what I witnessed one April Evening.

WASHINGTON SQUARE PARK WITH DEALER

2000. 36 X 48. Oils on Canvas. In an attempt to promote my art, I carried this painting around New York City for 5 days. Tens of thousands of people saw it. In addition, it was photographed by a famous photographer with me holding it, whose website at the time had 700,000 subscribers. Tens of thousands of people visited my website that day because of it. It is still available to be rehomed.
