POOL HUSTLER

1993. 24 x 36. Oils on Plywood. In Art School, I met a guy named Fred Schuback and we became fast friends. He happened to be excellent at Pool. He would go to Pool Halls and play great players and beat them, but not for money, just to see the look on their faces. He looked like and acted like he couldn't play. He also would make Pool and Billiard paintings, so I didn’t, because I wanted him to have that niche. He passed away in 1991, so in 1993, I painted this painting as a tribute to him. After that, Pool Paintings came pouring out like a flood, and I even became known for them.

QUEENS BILLIARDS

2004. 36 x 48. Oils on Canvas Panel. I lived in Queens NYC from 2003 to 2010. There were several Pool and Billiard Halls there. I did frequent a few to make drawings. This is one painting from one of those drawings. The queens cityscape out the window is particularly interesting, to me. It reveals how i feel about the city, and how my mind works.

HARLEM HUSTLE

1997. 36 X 48. Oils on Canvas. You lay down a 10 and beat him flat. Now it’s 20 and down he goes. Soon it’s a hundred, you still can’t loose. Now it’s 500 and all is lost. You’ve fallen for the Harlem Hustle.

SHOOTIN' FOR KEEPS

1996. 30 x 40 Oils on Canvas. He’s shootin fast and high. His money’s on the line. He’s on his last draw. He’s stroking’ his way. He’s playin on the sly. He’s shootin’ for keeps.

THE LONG SHOT

1998. 36 x 48. Oils on Canvas. Johnny came from the Midwest to the Big City. He knew he was good in his small town. But he wanted to be the best. Playin for big money, beating all takers. No hustling for him. He was all out. He was sliding for home. His Cue Ball was on the Rail. Beating all the Odds.He was taking The Long Shot.
